  • Tap-to-focus directly on the bee before shooting. Bees move; autofocus chases the flower otherwise.
  • Use your phone's macro mode if it has one (iPhone 13 Pro and later, most recent Pixels and Samsungs). Do not use digital zoom — walk closer instead.
  • Shoot in burst mode if possible. Bees reposition constantly; 10 frames in a burst almost always contains one sharp shot.
  • Daylight over flash. Flash startles bees, flattens detail, and blows out yellow hairs. Sacramento's typical afternoon light is ideal.
