About Us

Building a future where bees and communities thrive together

The Bee Conservatory is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to reversing pollinator decline through hands-on habitat creation, community bee rescue, and science-based education programs across the country.

We partner with landowners, schools, and local governments to plant native wildflower corridors, relocate at-risk colonies, and train the next generation of citizen scientists — because healthy bee populations are the backbone of a resilient food system.

our approach

Dedicated to protecting pollinators through science, education & community

Bees are responsible for pollinating one in every three bites of food we eat. Yet habitat loss, pesticides, and climate change have pushed many species to the brink. The Bee Conservatory exists to reverse that trend — through direct action, rigorous science, and deep community partnership.

We take a whole-ecosystem approach. That means placing hives where they're needed most, restoring native plant corridors, educating the next generation of conservationists, and rescuing colonies that would otherwise be exterminated. Every program we run connects back to measurable outcomes for pollinator populations.

All of our programs are driven by field research, peer-reviewed methodology, and partnerships with universities, municipal parks departments, and local farmers across the country.

Voices from our community

The Bee Conservatory changed how our entire school thinks about the environment. Our students now tend their own pollinator garden.

— Principal, Jefferson Elementary, Portland

"The Bee Conservatory ran a full-day workshop for our third graders and it completely changed how they see the natural world. Within a month, our students had planted their own pollinator garden and were tracking which species visited each week. The curriculum they provided was teacher-ready and genuinely engaging."

"Sponsoring a hive was one of the most meaningful things we've done as a family. We receive quarterly photo updates and a full impact report — actual data on colony health and local pollinator activity. It feels personal in a way that most charitable giving doesn't."

"Our neighborhood garden was struggling to produce. After The Bee Conservatory installed two hives along the perimeter and helped us plant native flowering borders, yields improved dramatically by the following season. The team was incredibly knowledgeable and patient with our whole community."

"Our company wanted a corporate partnership that actually meant something. The Bee Conservatory set up rooftop hives at our headquarters, trained interested employees as junior beekeepers, and gave us an annual impact report we can share with stakeholders. Real outcomes, not just branding."

"A swarm settled in our garden wall and I was honestly scared. The Bee Conservatory's rescue team arrived within hours, safely relocated the entire colony, and then took time to explain why this was a good thing. I'm a convert — I now have a sponsor hive of my own."

"I started volunteering on weekends for habitat restoration and it's become a genuine passion. The training is thorough, the team is welcoming, and you can see real progress in the areas we've worked. Knowing my weekends are going toward something measurable makes all the difference."

Questions you
may have

Bees pollinate approximately 75% of the fruits, nuts, and vegetables grown in the United States. Without them, our food system and natural ecosystems would collapse. Beyond food production, bees contribute to the biodiversity that keeps our planet healthy.

There are many ways to help! You can plant native wildflowers, avoid pesticides in your yard, sponsor a hive through our program, volunteer for habitat restoration events, or simply spread awareness. Even a small window box of bee-friendly flowers makes a difference.

100% of your donation goes directly to our conservation programs. We use Zeffy, a free donation platform, so there are zero processing fees. Your contribution funds hive installations, education programs, habitat restoration, and bee rescue operations.

We'd love to have you! Volunteers help with habitat restoration days, community education events, hive monitoring, and outreach. No experience needed — we provide all training. Visit our Get Involved page or email us to sign up.
