Before you commit

Where are hives placed?

Hives are placed at vetted partner sites across Greater Sacramento and Placer County — including community gardens, working farms, private ranches, urban green spaces, and school grounds. Every placement site is assessed for forage availability, sun exposure, and safety before installation.

Can I visit my sponsored hive?

Champion sponsors receive an annual behind-the-scenes visit to our primary apiary sites. Visits are conducted by appointment with a certified beekeeper and require closed-toe shoes. Due to site logistics and safety protocols, Pollinator and Guardian sponsors receive photos and reports rather than in-person visits, though exceptions can sometimes be accommodated — contact us to ask.

Is my sponsorship tax-deductible?

Yes. The Bee Conservatory is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All sponsorship contributions are fully tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. You will receive a receipt for every monthly payment through our Zeffy donation platform.

What happens if a hive does not survive?

Colony loss is a natural reality of beekeeping — we lose hives to mites, disease, and harsh winters just like any operation. If a sponsored hive is lost, we replace it at no additional cost to the sponsor and notify you of the situation, what caused it, and the timeline for re-establishment. Your support continues to fund active colonies without interruption.

How do I cancel or change my sponsorship level?

You can cancel or modify your sponsorship at any time with no penalty. Contact us directly at any time and our donor services coordinator will process the change within one business day. We do not lock sponsors into long-term contracts — we earn your support month by month.
