Volunteer With Us

Conservation work is physical, local, and hands-on. Whether you are pulling weeds, leading a classroom, or responding to a swarm call at dawn — every hour you contribute makes a measurable difference for bees in the Sacramento region.

Volunteer Opportunities

Find the role that fits you

Bee Rescue Team

Join trained crews responding to swarm calls across Greater Sacramento. You will work alongside certified beekeepers to safely relocate colonies from homes, trees, and structures to managed hive sites. This role requires completion of our 8-hour training program before going on active calls.

4–8 hrs/month + training

Habitat Restoration

Help plant and maintain native wildflower corridors at community parks, school grounds, and partner landowner sites across Sacramento, Placer, and El Dorado counties. No prior experience required — just a willingness to dig in. Weekend sessions run approximately three hours.

1–2 Saturdays/month

Education Ambassador

Lead pollinator education programs in K–12 classrooms and at community events. Ambassadors use our pre-built curriculum to teach students about bee biology, colony structure, and what individuals can do to support pollinators at home. Presentation training provided.

2–4 hrs/week

Event Support

Support our fundraising events, community awareness days, and seasonal outreach campaigns. Tasks include setup and breakdown, registration management, donor relations, and social media documentation. Flexible scheduling with advance notice of event dates.

The Process

What to expect when you apply

  1. Apply Online

Fill out the short form below. Tell us your interests and availability — no experience is necessary for most roles.

  2. Background Check & Orientation

All volunteers complete a brief background screening and a 90-minute group orientation covering our mission, safety protocols, and program structure.

  3. Role-Specific Training

Depending on your role, you may complete a hands-on training session — especially for rescue team members. Most training is completed in a single day.

  4. Start Volunteering

You are matched with a team lead, added to the scheduling system, and begin contributing to active programs right away.

  5. Ongoing Mentorship

Every volunteer is connected to an experienced mentor for the first three months. We want you to grow confident, not just capable.

Volunteer Voices

From the people doing the work

I came in knowing nothing about bees. The training program was thorough, the team was patient, and now I can walk up to a swarm of 10,000 bees without flinching. It has genuinely changed how I see the natural world.

Jenna Torres

Bee Rescue Team — 2 years

Watching a second-grader realize that the food on her plate exists because of a bee — that moment never gets old. The curriculum is solid, the staff is supportive, and the work is real. I tell everyone I know to apply.

Marcus Webb

Education Ambassador — 3 years

I wanted to do something tangible for the environment, not just donate and hope. Planting wildflower corridors with my own hands, then coming back months later to see them blooming and full of pollinators — there is nothing like it.

Habitat Restoration — 18 months
